The offices at Condé Nast were all abuzz today as Brides unveiled new May 2012 cover! To celebrate, Ron Ben-Israel of Ron Ben Israel Cakes whipped up a masterpiece creation complete with a life-like pair pearl studded Christian Louboutins, atop of shoe boxes from the likes of Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen’s Snake Skin Knuckle Box Clutch, even a sparkly engagement ring, all resting on stacks of the brand-new May issue.
Brides Magazine May 2012 Cover Look
Dotting the creation was the May cover’s featured flower: a Magnolia Blossom. It’s simply stunning and was hard to imagine digging a fork into…until we were told what was inside: alternating vanilla and chocolate cake with Grand Marnier raspberry and dulce de leche buttercream.
The one-shouldered dresses look has existed since the togas of ancient Greece, but is clearly having a moment on today’s red carpets and in recent bridal fashion collections. The likely inspiration? Michelle Obama’s flowy, white inaugural gown by Jason Wu, which had a distinctly “bridal” feel.Incoming search terms:

Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2011 bridal runway show was chockfull of wedding day inspiration! Herrera’s models sported gorgeous wedding hairstyles down the catwalk, and the adornments were totally unique!
Fresh flowers (including white calla lilies) were tucked neatly into the models’ bridal updos, a great alternative to more traditional hair accessories. The juxtaposition of the white blooms and dark, silky hair proved to be a killer combination!
Other bridal designers like Kenneth Pool and Monique Lhuillier jumped on the flower power bandwagon, but used fabric flowers instead of fresh. Lhuillier’s models donned tight, sleek top knot updos finished with lovely floral hair pieces, while Pool’s models sported their florals lower and on one side of the head.
I’ve always loved incorporating a flower or two into my special occasion hairstyle, so this is one 2011 trend I’m loving. What do you think of this wedding hairstyle trend? Love it or leave it? Cast your vote in the comment section below!

- With a few exceptions (Douglas Hannant and Melissa Sweet come to mind…), designers eschewed quirky, theatrical looks and showed off styles that could leap right from the runway to the aisle. —Lauren Matthews
Carolina Herrera, whose gowns were inspired by creative women throughout history, showed some of the most distinctive and beautiful hairstyles. This polished chignon was a favorite—the large, single blossom adds a touch of Billie Holiday-style glamour.
- This Carolina Herrera model shows off a bolder approach to fresh flowers.
The three oversize calla lilies tucked into her bun are a bit over the top, but somehow the sculptural, sensual quality of the look really works.
- Another favorite hairstyle from Carolina Herrera, this time with a Daisy Buchanan-esque vibe.
If you’re going to be wearing a vintage-inspired gown, this romantic faux-bob is the way to go.
- If you want to wear your hair down but out of your face, this hairstyle from the Rivini show is an excellent solution.
Just twist back and pin four separate sections at the crown of your head.
- This intricate this bun at Romona Keveza was stunning—great for a summer wedding when you want to get all your hair off your neck.
- A bun-chignon hybrid at Angel Sanchez paired with soft blue-grey eyeshadow—a subtle way to do a smoky eye for your wedding day.
- Glittery hair accessories were all over the runways—the Ines Di Santo show had some of the prettiest and boldest, paired with off-center updos.
- Lately, I’ve been obsessed with braided updos, so I was happy to see a few fresh takes, like this one from Modern Trousseau.
